Introduction
Respiration can divided into 2 stages, which are external and internal respiration. External respiration is a mechanical proses of continues exchange of gases with the help of the respiratory system. On the other side, internal respiration (or cellular respiration) is a biochemical process which involves the oxidation of organic molecules (carbohydrates, lipids and proteins), so chemical energy in these molecules can be released.
Cellular respiration can be branched out into 2 types: aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Their main substrate is glucose and produces ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which are energy-carrying molecules.
Similarities of Aerobic and Anaerobic respiration
- cellular respiration
- breakdown glucose
- release energy stored in ATP molecules
- catalysed by enzymes
